Silent Study versus Quiet Study

Which term do you like better and why?

I prefer the term quiet study. Silent study sounds too rigid, as if ANY noise is bad. Quiet seems more polite in a way. But I guess it depends on what you’re going for. If there should be no talking whatsoever, silent is the way to go. Quiet allows room for soft conversation/discussion.

I agree with Eli. Our library has a Silent Study Area and students are completely silent. It is amazing at how they all follow the “silent rule” when they choose this area to study. My office is in the Silent Study Area and I have been given dirty looks just for opening my door to walk out!
